Welcome Back!

on September 20, 2020

Hello!

Hopefully everyone is back and now settled/settling in.  We seem to have got off to a good start in Class 5.

We sent a copy of our power point to all parents as not many were able to make the Zoom  Meet the Teachers.  Hopefully, you have all been able to access the information it contains.  Let us know if not.

We have begun the important mathematical concept of Place Value.  The children have been making bundles of 10 straws/lollypop sticks to help them understand the concept of 10s.   In my day, it was called tens and units but we now say tens and ones!   We will spend a while on this ensuring full understanding as it is sometimes a tricky concept for children.  We are doing lots of counting forwards and backwards in 10s starting from different numbers.

In T4W, we are focusing on basic story structure – beginning, build-up, resolving and ending looking at characters in the main.

Our Geography Learning Challenge is based around Keyna.   We had arranged for a visit from a Masai Warrior group visit but sadly due to the virus they were unable to come.

Science is based around Animals (including humans) and the challenge is How will 5 a day help me to be healthy? The children will be looking for similarities and differences and categorising – which is a useful science skill.

On a Wednesday afternoon, Class 5 have Mr C O Neill for p.e. and Mr Donaghy for computing lessons.

We continue to work hard as a school to keep the children safe and well whilst trying to catch up with their learning. We appreciate your support with this.

A ever, any concerns please let us know.  It is easier if you could message through dojos or emailing as the mornings and end of the day sometimes it is trickier to give you the time needed.

Thanks

Class 5 Team
